Gingerbread House

Ingredients

  • 14 oz. brown sugar
  • 1 lb. 6 oz. granulated sugar
  • 12 oz.  shortening
  • 1/2 oz. salt
  • 3 oz. molasses
  • 12 oz. eggs
  • 2 lbs. 4 oz. cake flour
  • 1/4 oz. cinnamon
  • 1/4 oz. ginger optional

Icing 

  • 10 egg whites
  • 3 lb. 2 oz. powdered sugar
  • 1 oz. cream of tartar

Directions

  1. Sift together the flour, ginger and cinnamon; set aside.
  2. Mix together the shortening, molasses, sugar, and egg until smooth.
  3. Mix all ingredients in low speed 3 to 4 min.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven.
 

Icing 

  1. Beat the egg whites until frothy.
  2. Add sugar gradually and mix on low speed until sugar is incorporated.
  3. Turn speed up to 3 until mixture forms stiff peaks; 6 min.
  4. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.
